Three Beams For Different Situations
The focused 6500K spotlight provides the reach needed to follow paths, identify obstacles and see further across open ground. Its four output levels allow the beam to be reduced for ordinary walking or close work, while turbo provides the full 1200-lumen output when maximum visibility is required.
The separate 5000K floodlight creates a wider and more even spread of light for tasks immediately in front of the user. Its high-colour-rendering LED helps colours, markings and fine details appear more natural, which is particularly useful for inspection work, reading maps, preparing equipment or completing repairs without a harsh central hotspot.
A double press from off provides direct access to the red light. This gives discreet close-range illumination while reducing disruption to night-adjusted vision, making it useful around a campsite, when checking equipment or when a bright white light would disturb other people. The flashing red setting can also help the wearer attract attention when necessary.
Lightweight And Comfortable For Active Use
Weighing approximately 105g including its battery and headband, the HM55R provides substantial performance without the bulk of a larger head torch. The wide breathable headband distributes its weight securely, while reflective detailing helps improve the wearer’s visibility when running or walking near other people and vehicles.
The lamp angle can be adjusted vertically, allowing the beam to be aimed towards the ground, a close working area or further ahead. Its large side switch is easy to locate by touch and controls all three lighting groups without adding several small buttons to the front of the lamp.
Intelligent Proximity Protection
An intelligent brightness-downshift function helps protect the head torch and nearby materials from excessive heat. If the lamp is held very close to an illuminated object for more than approximately 1.5 seconds while using the spotlight or floodlight, the output automatically reduces to 30 lumens. Normal brightness is gradually restored after the lamp is moved away.
This is particularly useful when the head torch is accidentally placed face-down, packed while still switched on or used close to clothing and equipment. The function can be enabled or disabled when required.
Replaceable Battery And USB-C Charging
The included Fenix ARB-L18-1600 rechargeable battery can be charged inside the head torch through its USB-C port. A full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours with a suitable 5V/1A or higher charging adaptor. The charging socket is internally waterproofed and protected by a rubber cover to help prevent water and dirt entering during outdoor use.
Unlike a permanently sealed battery, the 18350 battery can be replaced when it eventually reaches the end of its useful life or exchanged for a compatible charged spare during a longer trip. Selected compatible rechargeable 16340 batteries can also be used, although charging and battery-indicator compatibility depend on the battery fitted.

An indicator within the switch displays the approximate remaining battery level, while a low-voltage warning provides notice when the battery needs charging or replacing. The head torch remembers the previously used white-light mode and output, making it quicker to return to a preferred everyday setting.
